USFS Road 047, Soldier Summit, Utah

This was a ride on an unnamed trail going down and bushwhacking on the return. It was a pleasant ride with nice views. Our return route included a steep climb up a hillside, a little brush busting through aspen thickets and crossing some areas of heavy blowdowns and deadfalls. It was good trail training for both horses and riders. Access is from Route 6, just east of the Soldier Summit service station. Turn east on USFS 131. About 1/2 mile along, fork right on USFS 081. Then on about 7 miles to USFS 047, right at the apex of a sharp turn that makes a long southerly elbow in the road. The trailhead where we started is unmarked and there are no facilities. A short distance from where we started, however, we found log corrals, located right on USFS 047 in a nice area for primitive camping. Easy access for any size trailer, with room to turn around. However the road getting there is several miles of very narrow dirt road: slow going.

Horseback Riding

Looking at maps later, I saw that the trail we followed down the gulch eventually comes back to USFS 081 at a point about 3.5 miles from Route 6, called Trail Hollow. Might be a good place to start if it is not private property.
