This is the first leg of my third and last day of a long cross-country flight originating in Stevensville, Maryland. I'm leaving South Alabama Regional Airport (79J) and heading mostly west-southwest toward Louisiana Regional Aiport (KREG) for the last refueling spot before finishing the trip. The air is calm, the temps are higher, and the plane is cooking. I averaged about 72 mph for this leg over 241 miles. The landscape changes from the rolling hills of south-central Alambama to swamp lands of southern Mississippi and Louisiana. I touch the northern edge of the huge Lake Ponchatrain and arrive hungry at KREG. A quick refuel and, luckily, they have a nice courtesy car, so I dash into Gonzales, LA for a quick bite.
